Welcome!

Hi there,

As you’ve probably gathered from someplace else, my name is Timothy Pedone.

I’m a guitarist by default whose interested (understatement) in a variety of styles.

I started out playing Metallica and Dream Theater tunes, I went on to study jazz and now I’m finishing up my studies in conducting.

I’m relentlessly curious about how things work, but also how I can study it most efficiently on guitar (something I struggled with a lot during my years as a student).

So this is basically a place where I can tie everything together and share my findings and process.

Topics

Here’s what I’ll be posting about:

The Legacy of Guitar

I started transcribing and posting guitar transcriptions for Sharp Eleven Music about 7 years ago.

About two years ago I started compiling a list of guitarists from (mainly) the 20th century and from that came the idea to transcribe my way through guitar history.

Guitar Study

As I mentioned above, I struggled quite a bit with my studies when I was attending the conservatory. I was overwhelmed, I received a lot conflicting information, I couldn’t make sense of what I was told and what I wanted to play ánd I had no idea how I could practice and study efficiently.

Nowadays, that picture has been become MUCH clearer and it’s my goal to help others get some clarity.

I’m in the process of studying practical counterpoint and applying partimento techniques to guitar, so that’s what will be posted here.

Score Study

I love the orchestra and I’m also studying conducting. I have to make orchestrations, but I also have to pick them apart.

This is where I’ll share all things orchestra related (also includes wind band).

Thoughts & Ideas

This is the place for more overarching and general writing on topics such as improvisation or the history & development of harmony, different styles, etc.
